Welcome back to all our returning youth and an equally warm welcome to our new joiners!
Our youth section is now looking like over 160 members from Under 5/6 through to Under 16s.
Exciting changes for the 2026 season include the entry of both an Under 11 girls team and two Under 9s ones in Gloucestershire leagues.
With the recent good weather after what seemed like endless rain, we have been out on the ground this week turning it from a football club to a cricket one and things are beginning to take shape!
We have listened to those who took the time to answer our youth surveys at the end of last season which are We always need more parents to qualify as coaches especially but also get involved in the running of the squads.

Membership

Membership is due before the season starts for returning members.
New Net Booking System

We have adapted Microsoft Booking to offer a way of booking the two permanent nets at Poulton CC you can find it Squad Pages & Calendars

New website squad pages are in the process of being rolled out.
Each page carries a WhatsApp QR code relevant to that squad and a calendar focussed on that squad with a link for you to subscribe to as well as a variety of other info which will be updated through the season.
Please remember that your membership is a club one and you are always welcome to come to the club for any games.

Fundraising Target for 2026

The club has a large fundraising target for 2026 comprising raising funds through the cricket week, the 100, sponsorship, donations, gift aid and fundraising.
Friday Night Youth Training

Last year’s caterers Peach & Pudding will not be returning to Englands.
For any questions, you can get hold of the new Youth Manager, Will Bathurst on Welcome to the 2026 season!
We are always looking to improve.
60% of parents wanted to see cricket camps return.
45% of parents wanted to see coaching extend into August and we will facilitate this.
55% wanted winter coaching and again we would love to offer this but it once more depends on more coaches qualifying to take the sessions.
The theme to this feedback is more coaching.
If there are parents interested in doing the qualifications to lead coaching sessions, you will be refunded for the cost of the course and supported by other coaches.

It has the potential be another amazing summer at Englands and for any queries of any kind, please refer to the squad web pages and/or email Will on The 2026 season is an important one for the club financially as we continue to adjust to our new scale.
To fund the difference, we must fundraise so we can provide the best possible facilities without simply hiking membership rates to completely unaffordable levels.
We raised over £5k last year to support the Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospital cancer charity which was fantastic and absolutely the right thing to do but it also affected our ability to fundraise for ourselves.
The target for fundraising this year is £22k.
This is a big target and around £100 per member but broken down, 2026 Fundraising includes the 100 club, offering summer camps, a cricket week in August, a golf day, donations, gift aid, bar income and sponsorship.

While fundraising, we have done a huge amount to alter and cut costs.
Our hope is that all players & families will do whatever they can to support the club whether fundraising events, training as a coach, buying food & drink at the club, playing the 100 club, donations and/or sponsorship.
Welcome to Poulton Cricket Club and our beautiful home here at Englands.
2026 is set to be exciting year with our 1sts & 2nds both promoted in the GCL.
This combined with a Cricket week 8 th August to 16 th which the senior players of the club are arranging, I believe that most parts of the club will have opportunity to take part in these events.
The Youth section as ever grows and this year organised by Will Bathurst, he will need as much support as possible with extra willing coaches, support with games and help in the kitchen and behind the bar.
If any more ladies would like to try Softball, we have a fantastic squad of varied skills and ages which compliments so well.
Poulton’s square and outfield looks fantastic , hopefully with a long hot summer and willing volunteers we can enhance the Poulton experience .

Membership for the season can be purchased through the club website and social membership continues to be popular at just £10 for the year.

New Batting Cage for Square

For years the club's old batting cage struggled on admirably but it was time to upgrade and get a new one which reflects its surroundings.
Thanks to an incredibly generous donation by a family who would prefer to remain anonymous, the club has taken delivery of a new batting Stuart Canvas net for the square in time for the 2026 Season.
The new net measures 11.
As ever, this donation goes to show how dependent we are for donations to deliver the cricket facilities we are targeting at Poulton CC.
We have booked our pre-season nets for the Senior Section in 2026.
These will again be at Farmor's School in Fairford on the following dates.

Chairmans Report 2025

What a great way to end a very busy season with both the 1sts & 2nds getting promoted, a first for the club.
With well over 80 games played at the club the season seems to get busier by the year!
Friday nights at the club have been an event of great success, masterminded by Lucy and her willing friends who have run the most successful part of our club finances.
The clubs softball team squad and support is another of Lucy & Lou’s superb success stories, the buzz and enthusiasm and desire to support each over is infectious.
The Youth sides went into Wiltshire Leagues and enjoyed a solid season with new fixtures and grounds which has given most a fresh impetus and success in the teams especially the under 13s , which all bodes well for the future of the club

The charity night was a special evening organised by Georgie & Hayley, very moving but inspired by these two ladies , to raise £5000 is amazing and full credit to them and the club members who dipped into their own pockets .
So we salute the seasons efforts, but now we plan for 2026, simply every extra hour of help and support from each member would keep the mighty Poulton improving, from bar work , coaching, work on the square or outfield, tidying the nets.

The Club Calendar is embedded 10^th Club Coach Qualifies!
The First bit of news is that Rob Ireland has added to his existing commitments at the club of Secretary and ground helper by stepping up to do the level 1 coaching course.
Winter County Squad Selections

We have not yet celebrated this properly as a club but the County Youth Winter Training Squads were selected last month.
Ground Update

The AGM approved the appointment of Willow Turf Care to look after Englands in 2023 and we are in the final stages of the contract agreement and will hopefully be able to formally announce this soon.
Pavilion Renovation

We are looking at a project that will lengthen the bar, put new cooling systems in the storage cupboard, proper seating in the pavilion social area and renovate the kitchen.
Fundraising

Costs of running the club will rise to £175 per member next year but we obviously charge far less that this to be a member.
please do consider support the Amazon Smile & Easyfundraising schemes in particular as these work with no additional cost to you but result in valuable donations to us.

Thank you to those who filled out a CDCA Survey for 2023.

GCCL Update

The final League for the GCCL division 7 has been sorted.
Rule Changes are being worked through and at the recent AGM, Will B was elected vice-Chairman of the GCCL.
Scoring, Umpiring Courses, Groundskeeper & First Aid Courses

We are going to set up an umpiring course in the new year at Poulton as well as several others so that members can get involved in this on matchdays, do so with confidence and expand their knowledge of the game.
But alternatively if you’d register an interest in doing Umpiring or First Aid at Poulton in the New Year, Please let Will know.

ECB Coach Development Courses provide the way to increase and further develop our club’s coaching workforce for the 2023 season.
Some courses have already started, others set to start in the coming weeks, whilst others begin in the New Year, but across all courses, places are filling fast.

News From the Committee

Dear Poulton Members,

As the season fast approaches the committee wanted to update you on a few important items.
Firstly, for those of you who would like to pay your respects to our dear friend Wayne Tinson, his funeral has been confirmed for Friday 22nd April 15:00 at Cheltenham Crematorium, followed by a drink at the Wheatsheaf in Cirencester.
In response to this tragic loss, the committee would like to extend its sincere thanks to Graham "Gramps" Clarke who has taken charge of the Englands groundwork at this critical time in the season.
Also to make sure you know, in conjunction with Poulton village, we are holding a four-day beer festival to commemorate the Queens Jubilee June 2nd – 5th.
Thanks entirely to Mark Chamberlain stepping into an interim bar supervisor role, the bar will be hopefully soon be stocking Thatchers, Thatchers Haze, Doombar and Offshore Lager on tap this season, so see you there for a pint!
Finally, a polite reminder to pay your subs before the start of the season.

Club Kit Exchange Launches for 2022 Season

The club committee is accutely aware of the costs of being the parent of a child playing cricket.
On top of these easier methods, we are also looking at a variety of ways we can help reduce other costs and one of these is to make use of the new website to offer a page where Parents can offload the kit their children have grown out of or no longer need.
On the other side If any parents see something that might suit your children on the kit exchange page, please just also contact the same email address and we'll facilitate the exchange or sale.
We are also looking into working with our new shirt partners Frank Water to send cricket gear out to India & Nepal for the children in villages where they install drinking water.

A potentially depressing month like January requires, I feel, the focus on the plans we have for 2022 to bring the warmth and optimism that good times are ahead especially now that the days are again lengthening and cold, clear Winter days leave Englands looking resplendent in sunshine.
This leads onto the news that for the 2022 season as a minimum, the cricket club is partnering with the Frank Water charity based in Bristol.
For those of us who knew Simon, having the logo on our shirts will mean we carry a bit of him onto the field along with memory of the acerbic wit which would jump on a low score or dropped catch.
Of other goals for the year, we have new members joining already to help us work towards playing targets including, a young player from South Africa who along with our charity partner we hope will have an impact on our youth about the wider world.
