Cricket News & Infomation For and About Poulton

The Cricket Club is proud to be part of a brilliant village offering cricket to local children and residents. Given the struggles clubs face now with both other sports and hectic personal lives, we have derived growth from not just the immediate parish but several surrounding villages and Cirencester as well.

Over the year's communication has been an issue in both directions and with the modern world offering so many different avenues of communication, we have built this page to inform those in the club about the village and vice-versa as well as provide a summary of relevant planned events and what we are planning.

In the below tabs you will find back issues of the Poulton Eye as well as either information or links to other pages with relevant information on them.

December 2022      November 2022      October 2022        September 2022             August 2022               July 2022              June 2022              May 2022           April 2022

March 2022               February 2022      January 2022          December 2021

We are planning several events at Englands in 2023 and will summarise these here as soon as dates are agreed which we hope to have done by the end of January

The Club is currently planning to hold our next Beer Festival in the 2024 Season.

Events planned for the 2023 season currently comprise

  1. Monthly quiz nights.
  2. Monthly cricket club social events at the pavilion where the players of our three teams come back to the pavilion from away games for a drink or two and a bite to eat. These were sucessful last year and helped put more money into the pavilion accounts as well as bringing the club together.
  3. Our youth section will be heavily re-organised with the vast majority of training/coaching held at Englands on Friday nights.
  4. We are always open to Village feedback on events to hold at Englands and during the 2022 Beer Festival it was suggested we do a White Ball. We are considering doing this alongside an end of season party and club prizegiving at the end of next season.

As soon as dates are fixed, we will update this page and the Club Calendar.

The pavilion is not owned by the cricket club, it is our responsibility for six months of the year and club officials help run it. The only income for the pavilion is from the profits from bar sales go towards maintenance of the pavilion and covering the cost of running it. Anything remaining goes towards Englands.

Basic running costs of the Pavilion are £6-8k in a normal calendar year and subject to all the utility price fluctuations of any other business. It is vital therefore that to meet these costs, we are able to have functioning bar to raise the funds needed. While the bar is open to anyone, the cricket club provides the core of the income at the moment and therefore summers have to be successful to build reserves for the Pavilion to see it through the Winter and build repair reserves.

Despite this structure in the same way that we funded a lot of the build thanks to having a Youth & Ladies section in the club and our status as a ClubMark club, we are able to apply for Grants. A Grant Application is currently underway to refresh the bar and social area of the pavilion as we seek to maintain the very high standard of facility we are lucky to use.

For complete transparency on the funding of the pavilion, historical accounts are can be found HERE

We are very sensitive to the needs of our neighbours and aware of the concern of having a bar in the locality for both traffic and noise. Any village concerns about the running of the bar are welcomed to the Chairperson of the club at PoultonChair@gmail.com

All villagers are extremely welcome in the Pavilion and around the boundary to watch games of cricket.

The below list comprises all home games due to be played at Englands in the 2023. Anyone from the village is always more than welcome to come to any games but in line with our club policies you are requested to refrain from taking any pictures at youth games.
