Home of the 2023 u13 County Cup Winners
Dear Poulton Members,
As the season fast approaches the committee wanted to update you on a few important items.
Firstly, for those of you who would like to pay your respects to our dear friend Wayne Tinson, his funeral has been confirmed for Friday 22nd April 15:00 at Cheltenham Crematorium, followed by a drink at the Wheatsheaf in Cirencester.
In response to this tragic loss, the committee would like to extend its sincere thanks to Graham "Gramps" Clarke who has taken charge of the Englands groundwork at this critical time in the season. The whole club have been guilty of taking for granted the insurmountable work Wayne put into the ground. the reality we are now faced with is that if we want to continue to have one of the best grounds in the county, we will need numerous club members to volunteer in the grounds team as the work far exceeds what one person should be doing. Please let a member of the committee know what you can do to help on both our grounds be this shifts mowing and rolling each week or helping out on match day. For anyone really keen to learn, there are groundskeeper courses and we would reimburse these and your membership fees would be adjusted.
Also to make sure you know, in conjunction with Poulton village, we are holding a four-day beer festival to commemorate the Queens Jubilee June 2nd – 5th. While the committee have been progressing organisation behind the scenes, we also need to ask you for your help. We have just over half the required sponsorship but need more. Sponsorship costs are as follows: £150 for a barrel of cider of beer; £75 to sponsor the gin bar. If you or somebody you know are able to sponsor the event, please let Philippa, David, James or Louisa know. Please remember, all funds raised go straight back into the club which will futureproof us for the foreseeable.
Thanks entirely to Mark Chamberlain stepping into an interim bar supervisor role, the bar will be hopefully soon be stocking Thatchers, Thatchers Haze, Doombar and Offshore Lager on tap this season, so see you there for a pint! We are hoping they will be out to install before the league season starts.
Finally, a polite reminder to pay your subs before the start of the season. The committee have agreed to adopt a “no pay, no play” approach to selection. You are also not covered by the club's insurance policies until you are a member. We are under large financial pressure now this year particularly as we look to put in place certain things to plug the enormous hole Turbo has left is with. We have already spent as much on the ground this year as we did in the whole of 2021.
Please ensure you keep an eye on the website, social media accounts & Spond for news/information and do ask club officials if you would like to know more about anything.
Thanks,
The Committee
