November Club Update

25 Nov 2022

10th Club Coach Qualifies!

The First bit of news is that Rob Ireland has added to his existing commitments at the club of Secretary and ground helper by stepping up to do the level 1 coaching course. He becomes the 10th coach Poulton has to call on as we look to relaunch and improve our youth section offering next season. The more coaches we have, the better it is for our youth members and the easier it is to share out coaching demands. We always need more coaches and will cover the cost of training, details of other courses and how to book onto them can be found here:

Winter County Squad Selections

We have not yet celebrated this properly as a club but the County Youth Winter Training Squads were selected last month. Bethan Manning (U18s Girls), Florence Miller (U13s Girls), Caelan O’Higgins (U13s Boys) & Harry Kilby (Under 12s Boys) have all made it through tough selections to get into their squads. Competition is fierce for spots and of course I’d have picked several more of our excellent Poulton youth. This takes nothing away from the brilliant achievement for these young cricketers. I’m hoping we can host county games for them next season and that the club will come out and support them if we can. A massive congratulations to all of you and also those that attended trials. We are very proud of all of you.

Ground Update

The AGM approved the appointment of Willow Turf Care to look after Englands in 2023 and we are in the final stages of the contract agreement and will hopefully be able to formally announce this soon.

Pavilion Renovation

We are looking at a project that will lengthen the bar, put new cooling systems in the storage cupboard, proper seating in the pavilion social area and renovate the kitchen. With spiralling costs of both Labour and materials, the project may need to be broken up. A quote has come in at over £22k and the ECB County Grant Fund funds up to £10k. There are options open to us and these are being explored. If we can sort the bar out so we lose less stock and it’s a better place to be, we will hopefully enable the Pavilion as a stand alone financial entity which does not require the Cricket Club to inject funds to cover costs. Agreement to renovate has been secured from the Trustees who run the pavilion on behalf of the charity commission.

Fundraising

Costs of running the club will rise to £175 per member next year but we obviously charge far less that this to be a member. We are totally dependent on additional income from a variety of methods several of these new to the club for the 2023 season. We’ve consolidated these on a Fundraising Page on the website which you can find here.

https://poultoncricketclub.co.uk/pages/fundraising-home

please do consider support the Amazon Smile & Easyfundraising schemes in particular as these work with no additional cost to you but result in valuable donations to us. There are also details of how to donate, consent to Gift Aid, & the 100 club. There will soon be details on a 1q23 Golf Day at Cirencester Golf Club. We are not currently planning a Beer Festival in 2023 but are looking at a proper end of season event at the club to tie in awards. More on this and cub dates for 2023 very soon.

Surveys

Thank you to those who filled out a CDCA Survey for 2023. You voted to retain the CDCA 18 Week Season, Enter a Saturday Cup if the league decides on three divisions, use Duckworth-Lewis for rain rules, you were split on 50:50 start times of 1pm or 1.30pm, wanted to retain 40 over games with a max of 8 per bowler. All views have gone back into the CDCA and we await their Final Decision.

Results for our own 2022 Club surveys can be found here.

Finally the GCF have requested that all players complete their GRACE related EDI Survey and you can find the link to this here.
